The Martha Mine in Waihi, New Zealand, is an operating gold and silver mine, managed by the Waihi Gold Mining Company. The open pit lies within a residential area, while the Processing Plant, Water Treatment Plant and tailings storage facilities are nearly two kilometres away, beyond the town boundary, in a rural area.
Park in the carpark on Moresby Avenue and walk up the pathway to the Pit Rim Walkway, a 4km trail following the rim around the entire mine area where you will find the designated viewing spot which looks down into the depths of the Mine. There are information panels and other interesting items to see as you walk around the trail.
