It was in 1864 that the engineer C. Arbrisard designed the estate's hydraulic network to supply three reservoirs. The first was used for the castle and the vegetable garden. The second feeds the park mirror, from which two waterfalls flow, as well as the steam forge. The third reservoir is the one of the farm.
Santiago Drake Del Castillo is among those who have all the possibilities to experiment with innovative cultivation methods linked to technological discoveries. Indeed, in his project of modernization of the estate, the lord of Candé foresees the implementation of new processes of irrigation, drainage or soil fertilization.
From then on, in the park and the woods of Candé, the banks of the Saint Lawrence were developed and a hydraulic network was built to increase the yield of the land and the comfort of life: at the place known as La Fontaine des houx, a dam diverts the waters of the Saint Lawrence to ensure the operation of a hydraulic machine downstream, at the Moulin Couché. Supplied by the two springs captured in the northeast of the estate, it allows the new water tower to be supplied by pipes. Not far from the pumping station, a wash-house was built on the riverside.
