"Les Hermites is a village in the North of Touraine. Its inhabitants are called the Hermitois and the Hermitesses.
It has borne the names of: Capella Hugonis (11th and 12th centuries, cartulary of the Trinity of Vendôme), Les Hermittes (1353, National Archives), Les Hermites (1497, Departmental Archives), De Heremetis (around 1508, pouillé de Tours), Les Hermittes (18th century, map of Cassini), Les Hermites (1820, map of the staff).
The parish of Les Hermites formed a castellany which belonged, in the middle of the 13th century, to a knight named Tancrède le Gautier, then, in 1547, to Jean Fournier, receiver general of finances and mayor of Tours, and, finally, in the 17th century, to the abbey of Vendôme.

The church of Saint-Benoît, built in 1122 (nave), was modified in the XVth (windows of the nave) and XVIIth centuries then in 1711. It has a single nave, a choir of two bays and two side chapels. To the north, the chapel of Saint John the Baptist dates from 1630, while the second, to the south, is dedicated to Our Lady and Saint Margaret. The nave, the choir and the chapels are covered with false vaults. The tie rods of the primitive framework have been preserved. This church replaced a chapel built by hermits at the beginning of the 11th century.

The south wall of the nave has a curious sundial".
