The sculpture of a spitfire plane is located in the Mitchell Peace Garden on Cedar Avenue at the junction with Congleton Road in Butt Lane.
The sculpture is constructed from a frame work of wire and straw with wooden propellers. It is mounted on wooden posts in the centre of the garden. It was created by Mr and Mrs Fernyhough as a tribute to remember the Battle of Britain.
The sculpture was unveiled by Councillor Kyle Robinson and Kidsgrove Town Mayor, Councillor Angela Cooper.
"Today is 80 years on from the famous Battle of Britain which saw the great Spitfire in action. Without it we may not have won the war. Thank you to Butt Lane's son, Reginald Mitchell for everything he did to help his country in a great time of need. We also remember the great sacrifice many pilots made to defend our nation from the Nazis."

The Mitchell Peace Garden is named in tribute to Reginald Mitchell the designer of the Spitfire who lived on Congleton Road just a short distance from the location of the garden.
Reginald Joseph Mitchell (1895-1937) was born at 115,Congleton Road in Butt Lane. He was the eldest of the three sons of Herbert and Eliza Jane Mitchell.
He trained as an engineer then joined the Vickers Armstrong Supermarine Co. in 1916, rapidly becoming chief designer.
He designed sea-planes during the 1920s and early 1930s, and from one of them, the Supermarine S6 which set speed records and won the Schiedner trophy in 1931, he also developed the Spitfire.
Sadly Mitchell did not live to see the success of his Spitfire in combat during World War Two.
