The commemoration plaque reads:
"Maori settlement lay the foundation of Grey District Society as we know it today. This commemoration pounamu kohatu & associated viewing platform commemorates local Iwi (Maori) & their contribution to the District & also Council's decision on 8 April 2019 giving local Iwi a seat at the Council table. Dedicated on 11 October 2019 by Mayor Tony Kokshoorn & Kaiwhakahaere Francois Tumahai."
