Located on the eastern side of Centennial Park at the end of Bay Street is the Fire Dance sculpture by David Black. This 25 foot tall bright red sculpture is easily visible from the adjacent streets and within the park.
The City of Fort Myers Public Art Committee selected David Black's 'Fire Dance' to be the first commissioned art work to be part of the downtown area's art exhibits. Mr. Black was one of 162 nationwide artists who submitted entries.
Dedicated on March 2, 2012, Black explained why the sculpture was open for people to walk through it. He wanted people to enjoy it from all angles. Surrounded by a paved circular walkway and benches for seating the sculpture can be enjoyed from all angles as well as within.
Paid parking and public restrooms are nearby. A children's playground is adjacent to the sculpture. It is the first stop on the downtown Fort Myers public are tour. For more information on the tour (
