De Sint-Dionysiuskerk in de volksmond bekend als de Heikese kerk om verwarring met de gelijknamige kerk in de buurtschap 't Goirke te voorkomen. De Heikese kerk is gewijd aan de heilige Dionysius en bevindt zich aan de Stadhuisstraat 6, op de plaats van de oorspronkelijke parochiekerk van Tilburg in het centrum van de stad. Sinds 1970 is de Heikese kerk de kerk van de parochie Allerheiligst Sacrament en Binnenstad Tilburg. De naam Heikese kerk verwijst naar de herdgang 't Heike ten zuiden van het centrum, waar zich een schuurkerk bevond die als parochiekerk de voorganger was van de huidige kerk.

Omtrent de voorgeschiedenis van de kerk is weinig bekend. Vermoedelijk bestond er een romaans zaalkerkje. In 1430 begon men met de bouw van een grotere, gotische, kerk. Deze werd in 1483 ingewijd. Daarna is er waarschijnlijk nog een brand geweest, maar de kerk werd hersteld. Ze had naast het hoofdaltaar vermoedelijk twaalf bij-altaren voor personen of broederschappen, waaraan een beneficie was verbonden. In 1576 waren er weliswaar beeldenstormers actief in de kerk, maar de reformatie kreeg in Tilburg geen noemenswaardige voet aan de grond. In 1577 was het archief, dat zich in de kerk bevond, door soldaten vernield. Op 15 april 1595 brandde de kerk af door krijgshandelingen tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog in verband met de verovering van Breda door Prins Maurits. Ze werd herbouwd en als zodanig in 1619 opnieuw ingewijd. Het uiterlijk van deze kerk is bekend, aangezien ze op diverse afbeeldingen voorkomt.

In 1827 werd er een neoclassicistisch front toegevoegd en enige tijd later werd de kerk gesloopt en herbouwd als neoclassicistische hallenkerk. Het betrof een waterstaatskerk. In 1838 werd deze kerk ingewijd. De toren, nog afkomstig van de gotische kerk, werd in 1895 ingrijpend gerestaureerd en lijkt daardoor van veel jongere datum te zijn, aangezien hij toen ommanteld is met nieuwere steen. De neoclassicistische voorgevel werd toen vervangen door een meer monumentaal exemplaar in neogotische stijl, ontworpen door C.F. van Hoof. De hoofdingang heeft een beeld van Dionysius, vervaardigd door Piet van Tielraden.

The Sint-Dionysiuskerk popularly known as the Heikese church to avoid confusion with the church of the same name in the hamlet of 't Goirke. The Heikese church is dedicated to Saint Dionysius and is located at Stadhuisstraat 6, on the site of the original parish church of Tilburg in the center of the city. Since 1970, the Heikese church has been the church of the parish of Allerheiligst Sacrament and Binnenstad Tilburg. The name Heikese church refers to the herdgang 't Heike south of the center, where a barn church was located that as a parish church was the predecessor of the current church.

Little is known about the history of the church. Presumably there was a Romanesque hall church. In 1430 the construction of a larger, Gothic church began. It was consecrated in 1483. After that there was probably another fire, but the church was restored. In addition to the main altar, it probably had twelve at-altars for persons or brotherhoods, to which a benefice was attached. In 1576 there were indeed iconoclasts active in the church, but the Reformation did not gain a significant foothold in Tilburg. In 1577 the archive, which was located in the church, was destroyed by soldiers. On April 15, 1595, the church burned down due to acts of war during the Eighty Years' War in connection with the capture of Breda by Prince Maurits. It was rebuilt and rededicated as such in 1619. The appearance of this church is well known, as it appears in various images.

In 1827 a neoclassical front was added and some time later the church was demolished and rebuilt as a neoclassical hall church. It was a water management church. This church was consecrated in 1838. The tower, still from the Gothic church, was radically restored in 1895 and therefore appears to be of a much younger date, as it was then sheathed with newer stone. The neoclassical façade was then replaced by a more monumental neo-Gothic style, designed by C.F. van Hoof. The main entrance has a statue of Dionysius, made by Piet van Tielraden.
