The 29 August 1944 there was 592 RAF Landcasterbombers that took off for a bombing raid towards Königsberg, Danzig och Stettin. The planned route passed over Sweden to avoid German air plane and air defense in Denmark. In sweden there had been placed a radiobeacon at the Hallandsåsen ridge so the plane could take out another route to the dannish island of Bornholm on the way to Germany. The plane was going to take the same route after the mission.
Atleast 23 of the aircraft were ultimately lost and at least 9 crashed in Sweden
The only surviver was sgt Cunningham, 8 other crew member died.
Take a photo at the the island.
i was contacted by a diving team who was going to search for the plane during 2021-2022.
