The small village of Liff is situated on the border of the county of Angus and the western edge of the city of Dundee in Scotland. Its parish church is situated on the south-western edge of the village and is prominent due to the tower and steeple on its eastern side. It is the third church built on the site, the first was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was replaced in 1774. this building then fell into disrepair and was replaced by the current building in 1839.

The large cemetery in the churchyard was likely in use during the period of the original church and covers the area to the north and west in wooded surroundings. The pictured gravestone reads as follows:
