Het zand voor de aanleg van de Tweede Maasvlakte is zo'n 10 km uit de kust uit speciale zandputten op de Noordzee bodem gewonnen. Vroeger was op deze plek een ankergebied voor schepen, een wachtgebied waar schepen ten anker gingen in afwachting van volgende lading of een vrije plek in de haven. Heel soms ging er een een anker 'verloren' als de ketting brak.
Op deze plek, bij het haven expositie centrum Futureland, vind je twee ankers die door de zandzuiger schepen die het zand voor de Tweede Maasvlakte opspoten naar boven zijn gebracht.

The sand for the construction of Maasvlakte 2 was extracted about 10 km off the coast from special sand pits on the North Sea bed. This place used to be an anchorage area for ships, a waiting area where ships anchored awaiting the next cargo or a free space in the port. Sometimes an anchor was 'lost' when the chain broke.
At this spot, at the Futureland harbor exhibition center, you will find two anchors that were brought up by the sand dredger ships that sprayed the sand in front of Maasvlakte 2.
