He was Lewis Frank Garrett according to the folks running the Fannin County website, who have a photo of him and some related news clippings related to his death. As his headstone suggests, he died while in the service. He was a Private in the United States Army, Battery C, 344th Field Artillery, 90th Division, and he was stricken with measles and then later, the pneumonia that finished him off at the young age of 24.

The family name, "Garrett", is below the Woodmen of the World emblem, followed by this inscription:
