It is one of the most beautiful bridges over the Arnoia and one of the examples of Roman construction that preserves much of its original structure.
Declared a national monument in 1984, it is 57 meters wide and consists of four semicircular arches with peak buttresses on pilasters to resist the current of the river.
It was built to communicate the Roman camp Aquis Querquernis with Ourense and Lugo; and it is also related to the existence of a Roman military complex in the municipality of Cartelle. It is considered as a secondary route to connect Via Nova and Via XVII.
The Ponte Freixo area is integrated into a recreational area where you can go swimming, hiking, enjoying a meal outdoors or simply enjoying the scenery.
