The first congregational meeting house was built on the town green in 1780. It was replaced by a second structure in 1800. This church was lost to fire in January 1857. The present Lee Congregational Church was built later in 1857. It is a wood frame structure constructed in the Romanesque Revival style to a design by architects A. L. Clark and G. A. Day.
The façade of the church is three bays wide and contains three levels. The lower level has an entrance in the center with a rounded top which is flanked by tow smaller identical entrances. Th second level has a double set of windows with a rounded lintel flanked by a single set of windows, also with a rounded lintel. On the third level above the center window is a round window with a semi-circular lintel.
The wooden frame steeple is 171' tall and is thought to be the tallest in New England. The steeple has a four-faced clock which uses a Seth Thomas clock mechanism and a belfry which contains a 2,000-pound bell.
The Lee Congregational Church is part of the Lee Lower Main Street Historic District that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
