Located in Volusia County is a confluence of the Hontoon Dead River with the St. Johns River. Hontoon Dead River borders on the west side of Hontoon Island State Park with the St. Johns River bordering on the north and eastern sides of the park.
Canoes and kayaks can be rented at the Hontoon Island State Park concessions building on the island for paddling on the busy St. Johns River or the quieter Hontoon Dead River. A passenger ferry is available to transport visitors to the island from the mainland at no cost.
