General James Samuel Wadsworth commanded the first Union Infantry Division to go into action at Gettysburg. The statue shows General Wadsworth as he stood with one arm extended directing his troops into battle.
This statue was placed by the New York Monuments Commission in hornor of General Wadsworth.
The statue was dedicated on October 6, 1914, designed by Edward P. Casey (base), sculptor was R. Hinton Perry, materials used Staandard Bronze and Dark Barre Granite at a cost of about $7600.
