The small village of Liff is situated in the county of Angus on the border with the city of Dundee of which it lies four miles from the centre of. The village's dominating feature is the steeple of the parish church which lies on the south-western edge of the village.
It is the third church built on the site, the original was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and was replaced in 1774. This building became unstable and was replaced by the current church in 1839.
Designed by the Perth architect Wiliam McDonald Mackenzie, and built from stone from the nearby quarry at the Den of Gray, it is in an English Gothic style with the two stage tower and spire dominating the eastern end at the main entrance. The slender pyramidal spire is 108 feet high with ornamental pinnacles and four flying buttresses. A bell inside the tower is inscripted:
'JAN BVRGER HEEFT MY GEGOTEN 1696' which translates to 'Jan Burgerhuis cast me in 1696'.
The church united with the nearby church in the village of Fowlis and is now up for sale.
