The 'May Day Dancers' gate is located on King Street at the entrance to the Knutsford Heritage Centre.

The wrought iron gate was designed by Diane Gorvin in 1991, to celebrate Knutsford Royal May Day. The gate is inspired by maypole dancing. Maypole dancing is an old country tradition, where girls and boys dance around a tall maypole weaving coloured ribbons in and out creating a pattern on the pole. The gate features three girls holding long ribbons. (visit link)

Royal May Day in Knutsford is an annual event that takes place on the first Saturday in May, and dates back to 1864.
The procession through the town and the crowning of the May Queen began in 1864 by the Vicar of Knutsford, the Rev. Robert Clowes. The prefix ‘Royal’ was bestowed on the event in 1887 by their Majesties King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, then Prince and Princess of Wales. After the crowning of the May Queen there is always a display of maypole dancing. SOURCE: (visit link)
