Jonathan Edwards was the second pastor at the nearby First Congregational Church in Stockbridge. A monument honoring the Puritan minister was erected by his descendants in 1872. The 20' high pink granite monument contains a square base supporting a round column topped by an urn shaped finial. The monument rests on a square granite ground level plinth.

Jonathan Edwards was born on October 5, 1703 in East Windsor, CT. He entered Yale College in 1716 at age 12. He became a fiery preacher who was influential in creating the First Great Awakening in America. His theological writings created the the New England School of theology.
