Oorspronkelijk deed het gebouw dienst als Postkantoor in Bovenkarspel. Tegenwoordig herbergt het een multifunctioneel centrum. De bouwstijl is expressionistisch met kenmerken van de Amsterdamse school. Het is ontworpen door J. Crouwel en gerealiseerd in 1921. In de loop der tijd hebben verbouwingen plaatsgevonden: in 1970, 1983 en 2012.
Het voormalige postkantoor aan de Hoofdstraat 17-19 is van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als een deels gaaf bewaard gebleven postkantoor met directeurswonings uit het eerste kwart van de twintigste eeuw opgetrokken in sober expressionistische stijl met kenmerken van de
Amsterdamse school. Tevens heeft het pand waarde als karakteristiek onderdeel van het oeuvre van rijksbouwmeester Joseph Crouwel. Het markante gebouw heeft stedenbouwkundige waarde vanwege de beeldbepalende situering op de plek waar de Stationslaan uitkomt op de Hoofdstraat.

Originally the building served as a Post Office in Bovenkarspel. Today it houses a multifunctional center. The architectural style is expressionist with characteristics of the Amsterdam school. It was designed by J. Crouwel and realized in 1921. Renovations have taken place over time: in 1970, 1983 and 2012.
The former post office at Hoofdstraat 17-19 is of general importance because of its architectural and cultural-historical value as a partly intact post office with director's apartments from the first quarter of the twentieth century, built in a sober expressionist style with characteristics of the
Amsterdam school. The building also has value as a characteristic part of the oeuvre of Chief Government Architect Joseph Crouwel. The striking building has urban design value because of its iconic location where Stationslaan meets Hoofdstraat.
