A dove of peace bearing an olive branch is on the marble headstone marking the final resting place of Maxey Bell Lightfoot in the historic Evergreen Cemetery, Paris, TX.

This little boy didn't even survive a year, a testament to how tough times could be in the last quarter of the 1800s. "Maxey Bell" is a nod to his adoptive grandfather, Sam Bell Maxey, who was a prominent area citizen in the law business with Maxey Bell's father, Henry William Lightfoot, himself prominent in his own right. Mr. Lightfoot married Mr. Bell's adopted daughter, Dora, and Maxey Bell may have been their first child. The dove is under an arch that covers the top of the headstone, and the inscription scroll reads:
