The Evangelical Free Church in America was organized in 1950 when the Swedish Evangelical Free Church and the Norwegian-Danish Evangelical Free Church Association merged. The church is fundamental in its doctrine. In its Statement of Faith, the Evangelical Free Church of America affirms the authority and inerrancy of the Bible, the Trinity, atonement through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and original sin.
Westfield's Evangelical Free Church was build in 1980 and opened in 1981. The church is contained within a sprawling complex of buildings which are interconnected. The church building is located between the church office on the north and the church hall and cafeteria on the right. The church forms a cross with pointed arms at the ends of the transept. The front apse of the church has a gabled roof. The the façade is is covered with three sets of tinted glass windows. The central set is divided by a full length white cross. A square addition to the roof has four windows on each side and a cross on the top.
