This 'you are here' map can be found on a tablet style plinth at the roadside of the A976 in the Aberdeenshire countryside. The B976 runs between the towns of Banchory and Aboyne, reaching a high point at Corsedardar Hill some six miles from Aboyne.
At this point, the road reaches some points of interest as stated by the information on the sign. On the same southern verge of the road as the sign are the Birse Parish War Memorial to the east, and the Birse Millennium Stone to the west. Opposite, on the north side of the road, is Dardanus' Stone, a standing stone, thought to date back to 75AD. Also included on the sign is the waymarked walk up to Tom's Cairn which begins from the lay-by opposite.
There are lay-bys on both sides of the road, including the one next to where the sign is situated.
