At this point on the Missouri Arkansas Line where the Telegraph Road entered the 10 mile long Cross Timbers Hollow on Feb 16,1862,occured the first skirmish on Benton County soil.
Brigadeer General Curtis' Federal Army overtook the rear guard of Major General Price as he retreated southward,This marked the beginning of the Pea Ridge campaign.
