The old military battery J4 at Cabo Silleiro was built after the Civil War and entered service in the early 1940s as a coastal battery to protect the entrance to the Ría de Vigo and Baiona.
Underground 200 meters of galleries loaded with thousands of stories are hidden, through which young people who were carrying out military service passed, after the dissolution of the Coast Regiment in 1979, with the end of the Franco regime. When military service was no longer compulsory, the activity in the area was thus terminated.
There is a main tunnel, with different branches that connect the Vickers artillery with the telemetry bunker, which is located in the highest area to see the horizon of possible enemy attacks.
In 2002 it was reopened for monitoring oil slicks in the Prestige tragedy.
In July of this year 2016, the area suffered an arson fire that damaged most of the vegetation. Sad news that clouds the visit to the side of the mountain.

If you visit it, I recommend you wear dark clothes since despite the rains of the last days the branches are still loaded with soot.
Despite all this, there are structures that despite vandalism, remain in good condition for the visit and open the mind to the imagination.
UPDATED: Access to these ruins is cut off.
