The description of this WPA property includes the main school, plus an auditorium and additional classrooms. It was very difficult to pinpoint the various buildings here because there is a whole campus of buildings including those added later. We believe we have identified the older construction, which was completed by the WPA in 1939.
The main school building which faces south toward N.E. 4th Street is a one-story red brick building with a flat roof. It has just a few single double hung windows along the facade. The entrance is raised and has a double staircase, leading to a recessed entrance. Above this is a large triangular pediment with the name of the school. This building is rectangular with two extensions to the rear. A large addition was added onto the east extension at a later time.
The auditorium, located directly behind the main school at an angle originally had a high arched roof. Today it has a metal gabled roof. All windows in this building have been boarded up. The extra classroom buildings are at an angle, west of the auditorium, behind the original school. They are one-story and have windows set in triples. The WPA shield and another bronze informational plaque are located on the brick wall of a small addition, and we believe they were moved to an outside wall when the addition was added and would have covered them up. There is an additional small brick building west of the school which appears it could date from 1939. It is too small to have been a classroom.
