The construction of sawmills at Hilton Falls is tied to many historic events that shaped the political and economic landscape in Ontario. In 1991, the Halton Region Conservaton Authority contacted Historica Research Limited to undertake a heritage assessment of the mills. The documentary research indicated that there were three separate saw mills operating at Hilton Falls between 1385 and 1967.
