Lady Bromet opened the Garden of Remembrance and The Ven. Charles Vincent Stockwood M. A. Archdeacon of Man on Sunday August 31st 1947.

The Garden was a gift to St.Peter's from The Women's Section, Onchan Branch of The British Legion. It is appropriate therefore that it was Lady Bromet who performed the opening rather than her husband, Sir Geoffrey Rhodes Bromet, who was at the time the Island's Lieutenant Governor.

The memorial plaque for the occassion is inscribed as follows:

AND DEDICATED BY

ARCHDEACON OF MANN
ON SUNDAY AUGUST 31ST
1947
THIS GARDEN WAS THE GIFT OF
THE WOMEN'S SECTION, ONCHAN BRANCH
OF THE BRITISH LEGION'

Lady Ida Margaret Bromet (nee Ratcliffe)
Married in 1917 to Air Vice-Marshall Sir Geoffrey Bromet, Lieutenant Governor (1945-1952). She died in 1961 according to Winterbottom, 1999, ‘Governors of the Isle of Man since 1765’.

Sir Geoffrey and Lady Margaret had one child a daughter, Margaret Bromet, who was born on 3rd September 1918 at Marylebone, London, England.
