Clemens August I of Bavaria was born in Brussels in 1700. In 1723 he was elected Archbishop of Cologne. During his time in Cologne, he ordered the construction of the nearby castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust.
This statue is a copy of the one commissioned by Balthasar Reichhard in 1757. The copy was made in 1985 from concrete for the city of Brühl on the occasion of the 700th anniversary. The statue stands on a base about 120 cm high, the representation of Clemens August is about life-size.
