The RCAF Women's Division

In 1941, the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) was the first to the armed
services to establish a women's component.
More that 17,000 women served in the Royal Canadian Air Force
(Women's Division). It members served in non-combat roles
during the war, performing a wide range of duties from
clerical work to aircraft maintenance. From 1942, some of its
members ere posted to the United-Kingdom, where over
1 ,300 ultimately served.

The Canadian Women's Army Corps was created in August 1941 to address the need for more personnel in the war effort. Prior to this time, only nurses were admitted into the Canadian Armed Forces. At its inception, the corps was part of the militia, but was integrated into the regular defence forces in 1942. The Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division was also founded in 1941, and the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service was founded the following year. The women were given non-combatant roles in administration and technical trades.

En 1941, l’ARC (L'Aviation Royale Canadienne) a été le premier service armé
à créer une section féminine.

Plus de 17 000 femmes ont servi dans l’Aviation royale du
Canada (Division féminine) Ses membres ont accompli un large
éventail de tâches non reliées au combat pendant la guerre,
du travail de bureau à l’entretien des avions. À partir de 1942,
certaines de ses membres ont été envoyées au Royaume-Uni,
ou plus de 1 300 d’entre elles ont servi pendant la guerre.

"Le Service féminin de l'Armée canadienne est créé en août 1941 afin de répondre au besoin de main-d'oeuvre supplémentaire pour l'effort de guerre. Auparavant, seules les infirmières étaient admises dans les Forces armées canadiennes. Le Service féminin de l'Armée canadienne fait d'abord partie de la milice, puis il est intégré aux forces régulières, en 1942. La Division féminine de l'Aviation royale du Canada est fondée en 1941, et le Service féminin de la Marine royale du Canada est fondé l'année suivante. Les femmes ne combattent pas. Elles se voient confier des tâches administratives et exercent des métiers dans le domaine technique."
