L'Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière (IGN) est un établissement public français à caractère administratif ayant pour mission d'assurer la production, l'entretien et la diffusion de l'information géographique de référence en France.
Pour remplir cette mission, de très nombreux repères de nivellement ont été positionnés à travers la France. Ils ont des formes diverses mais l'un des plus courant est une rond de bronze portant la mention "Nivellement Général IGN"
On peut trouver un peu partout ce type de repère mais l'IGN ayant le souhait de la pérennité des mesures les a placé sur des endroits qui connaissent peu d'évolutions : mairies, église, pont, bâtiments publics, ...
Ici, c'est sur sous le porche de la Cathédrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Arnoux que j'ai photographié ce repère avec son altitude.
Attention, le repère, au sol ne mesure que 14 mm de diamètre !

The National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information (IGN) is a French public administrative establishment whose mission is to ensure the production, maintenance and dissemination of reference geographic information in France.
To fulfill this mission, a large number of benchmarks have been positioned across France. They have various shapes but one of the most common is a bronze circle bearing the mention "IGN General Leveling"
This type of landmark can be found almost everywhere but the IGN, having the desire for the sustainability of the measures, has placed them in places that have seen little change: town halls, church, bridge, public buildings, ...
Here, it is on under the porch of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Arnoux Cathedral that I photographed this landmark with its altitude.
Attention, the mark on the ground only measures 14 mm in diameter!
