15. April 1888 Hermann Köhl kommt als zweites von acht Kindern der Offiziersfamilie Köhl in Neu-Ulm zur Welt
1907 Abitur am Realgymnasium in Augsburg, danach Fahnenjunker im Württembergischen Pionierbataillon in Ulm
1914-1918 Erster Weltkrieg. In den Vogesen, unterdessen Leutnant, erhält Köhl eine schwere Verwundung und wird für die Fußtruppe untauglich. In Böblingen bei der Fliegertruppe schafft er innerhalb von drei Tagen den Flugschein, wird wenig später Hauptmann und Kommandeur eines Bombergeschwaders. Vor Paris wird er, Träger des Ordens „Pour le mérite", abgeschossen und gerät in Gefangenschaft
02.09.1919 Nach mißglückten Versuchen, als Arbeiter verkleidet, gelingt ihm die Flucht aus dem Gefangenenlager bis zur schweizerischen Grenze

1926 Gründung der Deutschen Lufthansa AG, Hermann Köhl wird ihr erster Nachtflugleiter
06./07. Juni 1927 erwartet er in Berlin die Ozeanüberquerer von West nach Ost Chamberlin und Levine, da reift in ihm der Entschluß, den Nordatlantik von Ost nach West zu überfliegen
14. August 1927 Von Dessau aus starten zwei Junkers W33, die „Europa" und die „Bremen" mit dem Ziel New York. Die „Bremen", mit Hermann Köhl am Steuerknüppel, kommt gerade bis Irland, die „Europa macht schon über der Nordsee kehrt

April 1928 Früh morgens berichtet die British Broadcasting Corporation, um 5:28 Uhr seien Köhl, von Hünefeld und Major Fitzmaurice vom irischen Flughafen Baldonnel gestartet. 36,5 Stunden kämpft das Trio. Über der dem Festland von Labrador vorgelagerten Insel Greenly Island gelingt Köhl auf einem zugefrorenen See die schwierige Landung
18. Juni 1928 Mit der „Columbus" kehren die Flugpioniere nach Deutschland zurück. Hinter ihnen liegen viele Empfänge und Ehrungen, ein unbeschreiblicher Jubel der Bevölkerung in den USA und Kanada. Hermann Köhl wird Ordensritter, Ehrendoktor der Universität Braunschweig und Ehrenbürger mehrerer Städte
30. Juni 1934 Er weilt in Tirol und entgeht beim Röhm-Putsch der Liquidation durch die Nationalsozialisten.
1935 Es kommt zum totalen Bruch zwischen Köhl und den Nationalsozialisten. Er zieht sich in den Heimatort seiner Mutter, Pfaffenhofen an der Roth, zurück
07. Oktober 1938 Im Nymphenburger Krankenhaus in München erliegt der Ozeanflieger seinem Nierenleiden.
11. Oktober 1938 Unter großer Anteilnahme der Bevölkerung und militärischen Ehren wird Hermann Köhl in seinem Heimatort Pfaffenhofen a. d. Roth beerdigt.

April 15, 1888 Hermann Köhl was born in Neu-Ulm as the second of eight children to the Köhl officer's family
1907 Abitur at the Realgymnasium in Augsburg, then Fahnenjunker in the Württemberg pioneer battalion in Ulm
1914-1918 First World War. In the Vosges, meanwhile a lieutenant, Köhl was seriously wounded and unfit for the infantry. In Böblingen with the air force, he got his license within three days, and a little later became captain and commander of a bomber squadron. In front of Paris he, who was awarded the "Pour le mérite" order, was shot down and taken prisoner
September 2nd, 1919 After unsuccessful attempts, disguised as a worker, he manages to escape from the prison camp to the Swiss border

June 18, 1928 The aviation pioneers return to Germany with the "Columbus". Behind them lie many receptions and honors, an indescribable jubilation of the population in the USA and Canada. Hermann Köhl becomes a knight, honorary doctor of the University of Braunschweig and an honorary citizen of several cities
June 30, 1934 He stays in Tyrol and escapes liquidation by the National Socialists during the Röhm Putsch.
1935 There is a total break between Köhl and the National Socialists. He retires to his mother's hometown, Pfaffenhofen an der Roth
October 7th, 1938 In the Nymphenburg hospital in Munich, the ocean aviator died of kidney disease.
October 11, 1938 With great sympathy from the population and military honors, Hermann Köhl was born in his home town of Pfaffenhofen a. d. Roth buried.
