Power Hydrant - Ardmore, OK - Painted Hydrants on Waymarking.com

Not long ago, this was a silver hydrant with an orange cap (produced by M&H Valve Company), and it had probably been this way since the 1990s. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

The orange cap has been repainted, with light bulbs on two sides, outlined in black with orange to represent light. Most of the standpipe is red, with silver used on the breaker rings (note the red bolts and chains). There's a gear and chain motif throughout, including on the lower standpipe and the outlet caps, and a meter on the front outlet cap, with the needle closer to the red than to the green. Note how the artists signed the hydrant "LF + TD" on the back below the M&H emblem.

There's also an outlet box on the cap over the pipe next to the hydrant. It's blue and white, with yellow sockets, and a gray power cord plugged into one of those sockets.
