A small but beautiful church next to the main square of Arequipa, a town which historical center in an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The works for constructing this church began in 1590, led by brother Felipe, but it was only finished one century later.
The main material used was the Ashlar stone , which is specially porous and light and most adequate for ornamental work.
Its facade has an intricate work of stone carving in "churrigueresque" style, which is based in Baroque, but then more elaborated.
It has a Latin cross plant with three chapels.
The interiors are amazing, with an altarpiece made of carved wood covered with gold leaf. There are polychrome mural depicting tropical plants and animals.
