Declared in 1971 a Historic-Artistic Monument, the galician town of Allariz in Ourense is very well preserved and presents a prime tourist attraction. It is located in a beautiful spot, on the banks of the river Arnoia. Presumably court swabian (its name derives from the warlord goth Alaric), this villa was, in medieval times, an important enclave, political and religious. Of that time remains, in addition to a chestnut, surrounding part of the circle of walls and a good number of manor houses, churches and palaces.

It had its origin in the fort that dominates the flow of the Arnoia, crossed by strategic paths. The name of Allariz goes back to the 6th century when the presence of the region in Sweden creates the "Vila Aliaricii". In the 11th century Alfonso VI built the Castle and the walls. In the 12th century, Alfonso VII granted the Villa the famous Forum that made it Villa Real. Sancho IV named the town of Allariz as "Key to the Kingdom of Galicia", at the same time that an important Jewish colony was growing outside the walls. Here Alfonso X the Wise was educated; He learned Galician, since his dialect, Portuguese, was already spoken in the neighboring Lusitanian kingdom since its evolution from the grandson of the first Portuguese monarch Don Afonsso Henriques, who later allowed him to use it in some compound Cantigas in his scriptorium and, at least ten of them, surely due to the same king. Allariz's participation in the "Irmandiñas" revolts and the founding of the Hospital are the most outstanding events of the 15th century. Between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, numerous noble houses were built, the four Cruceiros de la Villa were placed, the Agricultural Poster was founded and a series of wars began with Portugal that continued in the eighteenth century due to the succession issue. In this same century, a fire destroyed part of the Convent of the Poor Clares that is being rebuilt. The 19th century begins with the occupation of the Napoleonic troops and continues with the mid-century confiscation that led to the dismantling of the Castle and culminating in the disappearance of the "Zapateiría" bridge and a large part of the walled sections. In 1900, the Villa lived moments of prosperity, reaching 10,000 inhabitants. Linen was the main occupation with more than 50 workshops. The decline of this activity coincides with the boom in leather tanning, the main activity until the early 1960s. In 1902, the "Allariz Catastrophe" had an impact on the press, when lightning struck the church of San Salvador, killing 25 people. they were at a funeral. Of this church only the cover was preserved, transferred to the church of San Pedro. The tragic history has given rise to numerous legends and superstitions in the area. Since then, there has been an economic and demographic decline from which Allariz has resurfaced in recent years.

The Allariz town hall building, in the province of Ourense, is located in the town's Plaza Mayor, just opposite the church of Santiago. It is a two-story stone building, with a huge balcony that covers the second floor. On one side of the building there is an official plaque from the National Geographic Institute that indicates the altitude of the town measured with respect to the Mediterranean in Alicante: 454 meters.
