De Blauwe Kerk of Nederlands Hervormde Kerk van Andel kent een lange geschiedenis die terug gaat tot de 13e eeuw. Oorspronkelijk gewijd aan Sint-Maarten en de parochiekerk van Op Andel. Tijdens de omvangrijke restauratie en vernieuwing van de kerk in 1957 is het gebouw onder leiding van Drs. H. Halbertsma onderzocht op vroegere sporen. Uit het onderzoek is gebleken dat er resten van een triomfboog in de grond zaten. Deze funderingsresten hadden een formaat steen die in de 13e eeuw gebruikelijk waren waardoor de datering op ca. 1275 wordt geschat.

Aanvankelijk was het gebouw een rechthoekige zaalkerk met een grondvlak in verhouding 1:2. Door een dijkdoorbraak in 1447 werd de kerk getroffen en moest geheel op de oude funderingen opnieuw worden opgetrokken. In 1851 volgt een uitbreiding met een noordelijke vleugel. Bij die gelegenheid zijn ook de buitenmuren gepleisterd en is, naar men vertelt, een verkeerde behandeling door de aannemer uitgevoerd waardoor de kerk zijn blauwe kleur heeft gekregen.

In 1957 is de kerk grondig verbouwd en uitgebreid. Daarbij is het gehele interieur verdwenen, waaronder het herengestoelte van de heren van Andel. Om de buitenmuren is een nieuwe buitenblad gemetseld en een uitbouw met toren gerealiseerd.

The Blue Church or Dutch Reformed Church of Andel has a long history that goes back to the 13th century. Originally dedicated to Saint Martin and the parish church of Op Andel. During the extensive restoration and renovation of the church in 1957, the building was led by Drs. H. Halbertsma examined for earlier traces. The investigation showed that there were remains of a triumphal arch in the ground. These foundation remains had the size of stone that was common in the 13th century, which means that the date is estimated at around 1275.

Initially the building was a rectangular hall church with a ground surface in a ratio of 1: 2. A dike breach in 1447 hit the church and had to be rebuilt entirely on the old foundations. In 1851 an extension with a north wing followed. On that occasion, the outer walls were also plastered and, it is said, incorrect treatment by the contractor was carried out, which gave the church its blue color.

In 1957 the church was thoroughly renovated and expanded. The entire interior has disappeared, including the gentlemen's chair of the lords of Andel. A new outer leaf has been laid around the outer walls and an extension with a tower has been realized.
