The Villa Maria Chapel is located on the corner of West 9th and Plum Streets in Erie, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1925 as a chapel for the Sisters of Saint Joseph convent, as well as for their Villa Maria elementary, high school, and college. When the Sisters moved to a new convent and opened new school buildings, the former buildings were repurposed as apartments. The chapel, however, was rented to a church group until the year 2000. Since then it has remained vacant. There have been numerous fund-raising attempts over the years to preserve this beautiful chapel and possibly repurpose it for another use. As of the summer of 2020, the building still sits vacant.
