A Geodetic Survey of Canada Marker from 1906 located on a retaining wall of a Canadian National Railway bridge over the North Branch of the Magnetewan River. The south abutment seems to have been modified but the north abutment still looks original for now. It seems as if someone has heaved a bunch of forming material from the tracks and judging from the condition of the north bridge seat, this might get some work soon. It was a bit of a go spotting this bolt but after moving a bit of material it was right where it was supposed to be as per COSINE.
Access
I parked and put in just past the Rotary Parkette off Highway 520 @ N45° 37.330 W079° 24.622. There is a widened part of the shoulder and a gravel path down to a culvert on the river. I launched just north of the path under the bridge. Make your way by a 900m paddle to N45° 37.764 W079° 24.458. Here is what looks like an old portage trail that you can hike for 180m to the bolt. The trail is overgrown but managable.
