Cooill y ReeCooil y Ree, which translates as Nook of the King, is situated to the West of Tynwald Hill and was opened on 5 July 2001 by the then President of Tynwald, the late Sir Charles Kerruish OBE LLD (hc) CP. The project for the creation of the park was conceived by the Tynwald Ceremony Arrangements Committee in collaboration with the Department of Local Government and Environment. Ongoing management is now the responsibility of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.'

Sir Henry Charles Kerruish OBE LLD (hc) SHK CP (1917-2003) The following was taken from 'Chronicles of Man 1972-2014 Volume'(ISBN: 978-1-907945-97-7):'
Passing of 'A Very Great Manxman'Tributes poured in to the former President of Tynwald Sir Charles Kerruish OBE, CP, who died at the New Noble's Hospital on 23rd July [2003], his 86th birthday.
Sir Charles, familiarly known as 'Charlie', was a formidable figure in many walks of life, not least politic, where he enjoyed a 54 year-long career as MHK for Garff. He was Speaker of the House of Keys from 1962 - 1990. As a successful farmer and stockbreeder he provided the farming community with a strong voice in Tynwald.
In an Isle of Man Newspapers poll in 2002 to name the greatest Manxman of all time he came second by just one vote to the poet T. E. Brown.
Hundreds attended his funeral, which was held at Maughold Parish Church, followed by internment in the churchyard.
During his career, the island saw many constitutional changes, including, in 1990, the creation of the office of President of Tynwald. He was the first holder of the post, which he held until his retirement from politics in 2000.
Former colleagues in the Keys described him as 'the outstanding politician of his era', whose debating skills put him in a class of his own. A fiercely independent man, he pursued a vision of a more independent island.
Speaker of the House of Keys, Tony Brown said: 'He will go down in history as a true Manxman, with a unique political record of public service'.
The Lieutenant Governor, Air Marshal Ian Mcfadyen said: 'As a man in politics he was always interested in constitutional reform and was honoured for his work with a knighthood. The Isle of Man has lost a very great Manxman'.
