This pillar can be found on top of a 159 metre hillock just south of the village of Birkhill on the border of the county of Angus and city of Dundee, the pillar being a couple of hundred yards inside Angus. Named 'The Roundie' due the circular nature of the woodland that covers the hill, it lies around two hundred yards south of the A923 Coupar Angus road that runs from Dundee through the village. The pillar is in good condition but views are restricted by the surrounding woodland, the Firth of Tay being visible to the south-west.
STEEPNESS: A short sharp climb up the most direct route, but more manageable from various other paths.
TERRAIN: Paths, sometimes muddy when wet, carved out of the scrubland.
ACCESSIBILITY: A signed path is marked heading south from the A923 next to a filling station on its western side.
NAVIGATION: The Roundie is easily seen from the road and the path heads straight for it through farmland from the road. From here there are a variety of pathways that traverse the area. The quickest and steepest route heads more or less southwards for a short ascent to the pillar.
DANGER: Some of the paths, particularly the direct route which can be slippery in the wet.
