At Saint Teresa's Catholic Cemetery on East High Street in Union City, Pennsylvania is a small stone bench with a quote from the cemetery's namesake carved into it. The quote comes from a translation of one of Saint Teresa of Avila's poems and says, "All things pass, God alone remains." This quote is part of a longer poem, Poem IX, which says:

"Let nothing disturb thee;
Let nothing dismay thee:
All things pass;
God never changes.

Patience attains
All that it strives for.
He who has God
Finds he lacks nothing:
God alone suffices."

This translation of the poem is from the Complete Works St. Teresa of Avila, published in 1963 and translated by E. Allison Peers.

Saint Teresa of Avila was a 16th century Spanish Carmelite nun who was canonized in 1622 and declared the first female Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul VI in 1970. Along with Saint John of the Cross, she helped to reform the Carmelite Order and establish the Discalced Carmelites.
