This monument to Brimfield's citizens who served and died in World War I is erected in front of the Town Hall and backed by a flag pole. On the flat side of a large boulder excavated from a local field is a rectangular cast bronze tablet with an eared architrave surround. Centered on it is the dedication, a list of the names of the 44 men who served and four low relief medallions depicting the insignia of United States, a gunner, an air plane, and a signal corps soldier. The plaque was designed and fabricated by the McGann and Sons company of Boston. Traditional in style and content, it is a modest but moving testament to the town's soldiers. The use of local rock for the base is a homey touch, and quite appropriate to this type of memorial.

The monument was dedicate in a service held in the Town Hall on Armistice Day, 1924. Special transportation had been arranged for school-children from outlying sections of town, and three Civil War veterans also attended, as well as members of the American Legion and other officers from Springfield. There were speeches,
community singing, and a prayer. The group went outside to unveil the monument and a recitation of "In Flanders Field".
