On the north side of the Medina County Courthouse, east of the middle of the building and at ground level, is a large block of native yellow limestone that is inscribed as the cornerstone of the original building completed in 1893.

The Medina County Courthouse is a well designed and stately building that was made with local limestone quarried from a ranch just a few miles away. The same quarry that the stones for the Courthouse came from also cut the block of stone used as its official cornerstone. This cornerstone was installed by the local Masonic Lodge. The top half has three features. On the left side is the date of the of the building using conventional dating. In the middle is a round Masonic symbol with the Compass and Ruler in its center. On the right is an alternative date based upon the Masonic method of dating. The bottom part of the cornerstone give the names of Lodge, and the two Masters involved. The inscription carved into the stone reads as follows:

Since the installation of the cornerstone, modernization of the building and safety codes necessitated that electrical lines and stairway safety exist be installed in the are of the cornerstone. There is also a legal announcement notice board installed very close to the cornerstone. This things are distractions around the cornerstone but they do not prevent one from getting access to the stone or reading it.
