Die Gemeinde Edith Stein ist eine lebendige und multikulturelle Gemeinde im Osten Hamburgs.
Das für eine Kirche eher untypische runde Kirchengebäude liegt
direkt an der S-Bahn-Station Nettelnburg und ist somit sehr gut mit dem ÖPNV zu erreichen.
Gebaut wurde sie Anfang der 90er Jahre des vorigen Jahrhunderts, als in dieser
Gegend ein ganz neuer Stadtteil entstand und viele Menschen in den Bezirk Bergedorf zogen.
Lange Zeit war sie Filialkirche der Pfarrei St. Marien in Bergedorf, seit Gründung
der neuen Pfarrei Heilige Elisabeth im Mai 2019 ist sie eine von neun Gemeinden
der Pfarrei, zu der auch St. Marien gehört.
Die Namenspatronin Edith Stein war eine katholische Ordensfrau, geboren
als Jüdin und unter den Nazis 1942 in Auschwitz ermordet.
Nicht nur die Kirche, auch der Platz, an dem sie steht, trägt den Namen Edith Steins.
