During Deutscher Krieg (engl.: Austro-Prussian War) in the near of Langensalza (a town in Thuringia) in 1866, Prussia, its allies and the Kingdom of Hannover faced each other. Hannover won the battle, but had to surrender shortly afterwards and was annexed by Prussia.
This monument, a 7.32 m high cast iron pyramid, which was erected in 1872, commemorates this battle.
