Andersen statuen placeret i haven.

English: The garden was laid out in 1876 by the Reading Association. This meant that the garden was closed to ordinary visitors. The reading association was a library for the rich citizens and only people with access cards could visit the garden. In 1942, the Reading Association transferred the garden to Odense Municipality and a completely new park was created. Behind the project were the garden architects C. Th. Sørensen and P. Wad in collaboration with architect B. Helweg-Møller, who was the architect of the town hall. The pergola, all bridges in the garden and the “Chinese wall” are designed and executed in particularly fine quality, which is worthy of a town hall garden. The original pergola contained a fine pattern of diamond-shaped beds. In 1949, H.C. Andersen statue located in the garden. It is created by Louis Hasselris. Close up - namely in the river - is Erik Heide's sculpture Papirbåden from 1985.
