In Talmont, the effects of the flood last night were severe. The Payré basin was unable to absorb the overflow from the Sorin dam.

A dozen streets affected by the flood. A basin at the foot of the Château de Talmont, filled by the rising waters of the Payré which crosses the town.

The origin of the incident: the overflow in the early morning of the Sorin dam located upstream, south of Lake Finfarine in the town of Poiroux. The structure could not contain the rising waters accelerated by nearly 45 millimeters of precipitation between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. The water came to over-inflate the surrounding rivers before reaching the city. "From 9 am, the water rose in twenty minutes", testifies a resident. All morning long, the level kept improving.

Very significant flood also of the body of water in the same sector. In its parking lot, the water rose to 1.40 m, completely flooding the parked vehicles. Impacted, the town hall was evacuated. An emergency unit has been set up in the Salle des Ribandeaux to keep the Talmondais informed of developments in the situation. À Talmont , les effets de la crue de cette nuit ont été violents. Le bassin du Payré n'a pas pu absorber le débordement du barrage de Sorin.

Une douzaine de rues impactées par la crue. Une cuvette au pied du château de Talmont, remplie par la montée des eaux du Payré qui traverse la ville.

L’origine du sinistre : le débordement en début de matinée du barrage de Sorin situé en amont, au sud du lac de Finfarine dans la commune de Poiroux. L’ouvrage n’a pu contenir la montée des eaux accélérée par près de 45 millimètres de précipitations entre 5 h et 7 h. L’eau est venue surgonfler les cours d’eau environnants avant d’atteindre l’agglomération. « À partir de 9 h, l’eau est montée en vingt minutes », témoigne une habitante. Toute la matinée, le niveau ne cessait de progresser.

Crue très importante également du plan d’eau dans le même secteur. Sur son parking, l’eau est montée à 1,40 m, noyant intégralement les véhicules en stationnement. Impactée, la mairie a été évacuée. Une cellule d’urgence a été installée salle des Ribandeaux pour tenir informé les Talmondais de l’évolution de la situation. La grande crainte des autorités étant que l'eau douce et l’eau de mer se rencontrent au moment de la marée haute, vers 16 h. Le phénomène serait encore amplifié. La rue du Centre a été la plus impactée. Certains habitants ont été contraints de quitter leurs logements.
