A sign at the east end of the Rio Grande Truss Bridge denotes it as the "Most Beautiful" long-span steel bridge in the United States, as designated in 1966 by the American Institute of Steel Construction, a non-profit trade organization that also specifies a portion of the US building codes for steel structures.
