The small village of Wellbank is situated in the county of Angus, some four miles to the north-east of the city of Dundee in Scotland. The B978 road heads from the city and passes through the village and this is where the war memorial is situated, on the west side of the road at a junction on the north side of the village.
The memorial takes the form of a white granite wheel-headed Celtic cross which tapers to a rustic plinth and is surrounded by railings. Black lettering gives the inscriptions, including on the wheel-head 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE'. On the front of the memorial is the following:
'WELLBANK WAR MEMORIAL
"LEST WE FORGET"
ERECTED BY THE RESIDENTERS OF WELLBANK AND DISTRICT IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT EUROPEAN WAR 1914-1918 AND THE WORLD WAR 1939-1945'
