This young lady rests in peace next to a sister who also passed on at a young age; they never knew each other. The dove of peace appears to be in flight or resting on an open book -- a Bible or the Book of Life -- and it is sculpted in relief at the top of the headstone. The inscription reads:

Mary Edwina
Dau. of
C.M. & Belle
Van Dyke

Oct. 8, 1901
July 27, 1906

-----

It is interesting to note that their parents are buried in El Paso, hundreds of miles from here. Both hailed from this area, and one wonders if the pain of losing multiple children prompted them to go somewhere for a fresh start in life.
