The welcome sign is a section of tree with rings and bark on the outside edge. A pine tree is used in place of the "I" in Lufkin. The name is underlined in blue possible in honor of nearby Sam Rayburn Lake.

Lufkin's industries is saw-milling and the manufacture of paper. Lufkin is the county seat of Angelina County, a large part of which is the Angelina National Forest.
